About Brenda Carpenter

Brenda Carpenter

I am a self-taught artist. There have been several influences in my life. My dad was a very creative, free-thinking man. I remember him sitting at a table working away on some project or another. I still concentrate like he did with my tongue sticking out between my teeth. My Aunt Marcia was another influence. I have a few very pleasurable memories of watching her paint. One time she gave me a little art lesson. That was such a deep satisfying time for me. I doubt she even realizes how much it meant.

There was also an art teacher in junior high who taught me the lesson of not accepting other people's opinions as the truth. It is important to carefully analyze people's words against the facts. I think I will leave this comment as it is and let you draw your own conclusion.

There are several artists who have taken the time to help me grow: TJ, Arlene, and my many friends at ScribbleTalk.

I have had a pencil in my hand as long as I can remember. When you doodle, what do you draw: stars, boxes, arrows, trees, the sun? I always draw people. There have been faces, eyes, noses, hands, and a myriad of other body parts strewn over my notes, and blank pages for years. My teachers in school never knew what that would find on the margins of my homework and tests.

There is something about capturing the curves and lines of faces and making a resemblance that has had me captured for years. Whether it's capturing the glint in an eye or the turn of a cheek, it's all exciting to me.

I am available to do you or your loved ones' portrait. Price is negotiable depending upon size, number of people, and background complexity. To contact me, call 918-381-8742 or send an email to info@brendacarpenterart.com.
